MR10 chair
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed this chair almost 100 years ago in 1927 before he was appointed director at Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany. The use of bent stainless steel tubes in combination with other materials was revolutionary at the time and it is still a design icon today. This particular example of the “MR10” chair is a licensed production from 1970. The leather from the 70s had completely fallen apart which I attribute to it being chrome-tanned. I replaced it with thick vegetable-tanned saddle skirting leather which is significantly more durable and beautiful. It’s held in place with paracord on the back and springs for the seat for comfort. The holes in the leather are reinforced with stainless steel grommets. This “MR10” will now last for at least another half century if not more.
